Trying to learn how to lose belly fat if you are a teenager is a major challenge because there are too many options. Options that the average girl does not have time or energy to sift through.

What Not To do

Before I tell you what to do, here is what not to do:

    1. run on a treadmill all day
    2. do endless crunches and sit ups
    3. go on a fast
    4. go on a “detox” diet
    5. use a belly wrap
    6. use elastics to “suck in” your stomach
    7. buy a gimmicky gadget
    8. take endless diet pills
    9. eliminate carbohydrates
    10. go on a low fat diet
    11. go on a liquid diet
    12. ignore my advice

Why don’t crunches and sit ups work? Because they don’t burn a lot of calories.

And if you want to lose belly fat as quickly as possible you have to burn calories.

You see, you can’t force your body to lose belly fat first. All you can do is put yourself in fat burning mode and wait until the belly fat comes off.

This is the main reason why so many teenage girls fail here. Because they focus on exercising their belly, not on losing fat.

Although paradoxical, exercising your entire body – for greater caloric burn – is more effective than doing ab exercises if you want to lose belly fat.

The Others

Ok, so losing overall body fat until the belly fat comes off is key. But what else needs to be addressed?

Answer:

  1. Estrogen levels
  2. Insulin levels
  3. Abdominal hypotonicity (weak ab muscles)

Having high levels of estrogen and insulin will make it harder for you to lose fat. And weak ab muscles can make your belly protrude even if you lose a lot of weight.

Luckily, you can address all of these with exercise and diet alone. You don’t need expensive supplements or weird training programs.

Exercise

Ignore all the hyped up exercise routines out there, all you need to do is lift weights in circuit fashion.

Doing circuits for the major muscles in your body will strip off body (and belly) fat faster than any other type of exercise.

It will also do the best job at lowering estrogen and insulin.

Now the key here is to do your weight lifting with circuits - do not target one muscle group per day like most body builders.

Your goal is to burn as many calories as possible, not build up each individual muscle in your body.

So how do you assemble a circuit?

Simple, pick one exercise for each of your major muscle groups: pushing muscles, pulling muscles and lower body muscles.

Then, do each exercise one after the other without resting in between. Once you have completed the circuit of exercises you can rest.

Sprinkle the circuits you do towards the end of your workout with some ab exercises. Or, simply do a circuit just for your abs.

Just remember to position your ab exercises towards the end of your workouts so that your core remains as stable as possible when you do the total body training.

The last thing you want to worry about is a weak and wobbly core when you are doing your tough exercises with heavy weights.

Becoming The Hulk

The female body is not made to gain significant amounts of muscle. Even men have a hard time gaining muscle quickly – it’s a long and drawn out process that happens slowly.

So don’t be afraid to lift weights.

Ironically, having more muscle tissue allows you to get slimmer because it burns so many calories. As long as you watch what you eat, lifting weights will make you thinner and sexier.

Remember that fat occupies a lot more space than muscle and you need muscle to get rid of fat.

Ok, yes, you could lose both fat and muscle at the same time by running on a treadmill all day and not eating any food – but this wouldn’t look good. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Your hair would get thinner and lose its shine, your nails would become brittle, you would lose your sexy curves, your bones would become weak, and in extreme cases you could stop menstruating.

Even worse, your metabolism could shut down before you lost all the fat and you would end up with the dreaded “skinny fat” look.

Now if you are still afraid to lift weights simply keep all your sets to 15 repetitions or more. At this repetition range, it will be virtually impossible for you to gain substantial muscle.

Just keep in mind that I don’t recommend this because you will burn less calories. And less calories translates into slower results…

Nutrition

Because of all the different diets out there, it can be hard to figure out how to lose belly fat if you’re a teenage girl.

It’s simply too difficult to navigate through all the conflicting advice out there.

Here’s the good news. You only have to focus on two things:

  1. quantity of calories
  2. quantity of insulin

To keep your caloric intake in check you will need to control portion sizes. I recommend eating one small palm-full of protein and carbs, one tablespoon-full of fat and as many vegetables as possible in every meal.

For accelerated results, cover half of your plate with vegetables every time you eat.

Why?

Because vegetables will mechanically slow down the digestion of your meal which drives down insulin. And they will also create a lot of bulk in your stomach which activates mechanoreceptors that tell your brain you are full.

One more thing: they will keep you healthy and energetic.

The latter is key because dwindling energy will make you more sedentary – less movement – which translates into less caloric burn.

Now there is one more thing you can do here to lose more belly fat: make your primary source of carbohydrates beans and legumes.
